A game of few chances saw Everton lose out to Reading on a misty afternoon in Widnes.

The game ended goalless after 90 minutes. Kirsty Linnett's cracking strike for Reading in extra time looked like winning it but Chloe Kelly equalised to take it to penalties.

Reading held there nerve to take the shoot out 4-3 and progress at Everton's expense to the semi-final stage.

WSL Everton Ladies v Sunderland Ladies

It was high fives for Everton Ladies as they overcame difficult conditions at the Select Security Stadium to beat Sunderland Ladies 5-1.

Courtney-Sweetman-Kirk and Danielle Turner both scored twice in the convincing win.

European Challenge Cup - Sale Sharks v Cardiff Blues

A great performance in cold and difficult conditions at the AJ Bell saw Sale sharks beat group leaders Cardiff Blues convincingly 24-0 to bring them back into contention in this competition.

AJ MacGinty was ruthless with the boot giving Sale a 9-0 lead from penalties conceded by the Blues.

Will Cliff was a competent replacement in the number 9 shirt, giving Faf de Klerk some respite from the exertions of the season. It was Will who was first to react to an excellent George Nott charge down to produce the first try.

Hooker Marc Jones rounded off a great match with Sale's second try in at the corner.

Sale edged past Northampton Saints for a vital four points on a bitterly cold eveningt at the AJ Bell on Saturday.

They were helped by an indisciplined Saints side who had three players yellow carded in the game.

Sale tries came from de Klerk and Ben Curry and there were debuts for Marlon Yarde and Janse van Rensburg.

Liverpool Ladies beat Villa Ladies 5-1 to progress to the QF of the continental Cup last night.

Goals from Hodson 17, Clarke 38, Greenwood (pen) 49, Weir 85, Johnson 87  secured an impressive win at the Select Security stadium.
